Historic Collinsville is open for self-guided audio tours from Thursday - Sunday, April through October. Weekly activities provide interactive opportunities to learn about specific topics like herbs and medicines, planting techniques, how pioneers received news, and more.
The Historic Collinsville Pioneer Settlement shows the story of life in rural Tennessee from 1830-1900, over 40 sprawling rural acres. The authentic period furnishings and artifacts in 16 restored log homes and outbuildings chronicle life before and after the Civil War. A wildlife center houses several examples of natural Tennessee flora and fauna. A church/schoolhouse and adjacent teacher's house represent learning and worship at the turn of the century. An 1865 dog trot house demonstrates the vast difference between an affluent family after the Civil War and 1842, 13-person two-room Lewis House before the war in 1842.
The Weakley House Museum showcases the life of Historic Collinsville Founders Glen and JoAnn Weakley. Of particular interest is JoAnn’s extensive quilt collection and weaving equipment. Glen was an avid game hunter and found many arrowheads on the property while farming their hundreds of acres. Guided tours of the house are offered hourly.
Second Saturdays at the Site offer self-guided tours and the opportunity for visitors to walk into the rooms of the cabins and interact with historical interpreters. Some months will feature special activities for visitors to enjoy like skilled trades, musical entertainment, reenactments, refreshments, community involvement, and more.
Plan a full afternoon of learning and fun! Bring along a picnic -- tables are scattered around the property or take advantage of a covered pavilion.
Regular hours are Thursday-Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday 1-4 p.m. and by appointment for groups of 6 or more. Guided tours are available each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at no extra cost. Reserve a spot in advance at https://historiccollinsville.com/plan-your-visit/.
