Tennessee Music Pathways

African American musician Lesley Riddle grew up in Kingsport, Tennessee. He had a major influence on country music through his association with A.P. Carter of the Carter Family. Riddle introduced Carter to songs of African American origin, which Carter reconfigured and brought into the family's repertoire, considered one of the foundational blocks of American music.

See Riddle's Tennessee Music Pathways marker and then stroll the Kingsport Downtown Antique District, the largest concentration of antiques stores and fine art galleries in the Southeast. When your feet get tired, take a drive by Historic Church Circle, an amazing urban design landmark. For a taste of Kingsport’s beauty, spend a day at Boone Lake and Dam Reservoir. Enjoy the zip line and ropes course, visit the animal habitats, take a boat ride, and watch the sun set and the moon rise at Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium. Take the family to the new Kingsport Aquatic Center.
