Opened in 1785, the Broadway of America was used by Native Americans and early settlers that came over the east branch of the Chickamauga Path by Sand Springs which is now Hwy 70 and the old Broadway of America.
During the 1800's Tennessee Presidents traveled along this mud road when it was just a stagecoach route. The Rock House Shrine in Sparta was a popular place to stop and rest on the way to Washington DC.
Today sight-seers get a taste of tradition along Hwy 70 with the old movie house, classic hardware building, old sawmills, community buildings, restaurants, shops and a drive-in-theatre dotting the landscape.
