Knoxville Opera contributes to the future of the operatic art form by educating the community about opera and its role in our culture, and presenting new works as well. The Opera educates regional youth and area audiences about the art, encourages the development of operatic talent in the community and fosters its exposure to the greater opera audience. Knoxville Opera presents the Rossini Festival annually in April, dedicated to celebrating the arts with a spectacular feast of dance, music and opera from the region's best talent. Voted Knoxville's "Best Festival," the Rossini Festival International Street Fair is one of the southeast's most alluring cultural attractions and brings a taste of Europe to East Tennessee, celebrating the color, fun and excitement of opera and Italian culture. The festival combines world-class opera performances, art and craft exhibitions, wine-tasting and a wide variety of other events with a vibrant International Street Fair. Downtown Knoxville's is transformed from a busy thoroughfare to a colorful International festival, with four stages featuring a range of entertainment options, an upscale artisan's market, the smells and tastes of authentic multi-cultural foods and beverages, and a special children's area with entertainment, fun and games. This extraordinary event also presents a golden opportunity to attend one of our fully-staged Knoxville Opera productions.
