Kingsport Ballet has been providing arts education and ballet programming for over thirty years. The school provides instruction in a variety of dance forms, with a full ballet curriculum based in the Vaganaova Method, summer intensives, which include pas de deux instruction with professional teachers, and a varied teaching repertoire, year-round.
Artistic Director, Valeria Sinyavskaya, former Prima Ballerina with Novosibirsk Ballet in Russia, has been at the artistic helm since 2002. She has staged full-length classics for Kingsport Ballet, such as Giselle, Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, among smaller works such as Les Sylphides and Paquita. Eight other instructors round out the faculty, including choreographer Odoardo Bordoni, recruited from Rome, Italy. Maestro Bordoni trained and performed with the Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg and has performed and taught internationally. Ballet Instructor/Modern Choreographer, Erika Ballard, and several other instructors round out the faculty.
The organization is under the management of Executive Director, Bertina Dew. It receives funding for general operations from the Tennessee Arts Commission, and outreach support from the City of Kingsport. The Kingsport Ballet facility is housed in an arts center located in downtown Kingsport with 13,000 square feet of space featuring four dance studios with sprung floors, rotating art exhibits, a dance supply store, and arts partners subletting space. Its downtown location makes it a perfect stop for adults seeking fitness classes in an inspiring environment.
