West Tennessee is home to the only institution in the United States exclusively dedicated to the advancement of the art of fine metalwork.
At the National Ornamental Metal Museum in Downtown Memphis, the public can experience fine exhibitions, conservation and restoration of metals, artist apprenticeships, and onsite fabrication of artwork and architectural elements in the Forgery.
Not only does the Metal Museum display such notable artwork, but it invites the community to create and make artwork themselves. Guests of all ages are regularly handed the opportunity to hand-make metals and watch the master metalsmiths at work.
The Metal Museum offers workshops year-round, beginning with the bi-annual "Taster's Choice" classes to introduce four primary metalsmithing arts to intimate and approachable class sizes. During the autumn and winter seasons, the museum has created a series of holiday-centered workshops for all ages. See notable classes below.
Internationally recognized and locally treasured, the Metal Museum has quickly become the center for innovative metal arts and contemporary art dialogue.
