Created in 1997, the WDVX "Blue Plate Special" program started broadcasting the same year, as a community public radio station from a 14-foot camper studio in Norris, Tennessee. In 2004, the Blue Plate Special started producing live shows in front of an audience at its new home in the Knoxville Visitors Center. The program is now a signature of downtown Knoxville and East Tennessee.
