As April marks the 150th anniversary of the end of the American Civil War, a living history program will take place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 18 at Johnsonville State Historic Park. The event is free and open to the public.
The event will honor the actions of the soldiers who served at the Johnsonville Depot. Union soldiers in action will demonstrate how artillery crews loaded, aimed and fired Civil War-era artillery. Visitors will learn how the artillery’s destructive power was used during the Civil War and at the Battle of Johnsonville on Nov. 4, 1864. Demonstrations of camp life, military drills and Civil War-era cooking will also be highlights.
In addition, a free Civil War Film Series will be held 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. each Saturday in April in the park’s welcome center.
Films will include:
• April 4: The Siege of Petersburg
• April 11: Honor Answers Honor at Appomattox
• April 18: The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
• April 25: Civil War Sabotage? The Sinking of Sultana
