Seeds for the Garden: A benefit for Carter House Garden

Nov 14, 2014

Featuring Alison Brown, Claire Lynch, John Cowan, Forrest O'Connor and more, this is a multi-artist benefit show, so we may even be adding folks right up to the date of the event!Brown learned to play guitar at 8 and banjo at 10. When she was 12, she met fiddler Stuart Duncan, and in the summer of 1978, Brown traveled across the country with Duncan and his father, playing festivals and contests. She won first place at the Canadian National Banjo Championship, which helped her land a one-night gig at the Grand Ole Opry.In 1987, Alison Krauss asked Brown to join her band, Union Station, and she spent three years touring and playing with the band. In 1990, she moved to Tennessee, and was named International Bluegrass Music Association Banjo Player of the Year in 1991.

Long recognized and praised as a creative force in acoustic music, Claire Lynch is a pioneer who continually pushes the boundaries of the bluegrass genre. She is the reigning Female Vocalist of the Year for the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) and a 2012 recipient of the United States Artists Walker Fellowship. Her career has been decorated with many other accolades including two GRAMMY nominations and IBMA Vocalist awards in 1997 and 2010.
