This quiet neighborhood of houses on an oval street, was originally a popular racetrack. Established in the 1800s by former slave Cal Johnson, the oval was Knoxville's best-known horse-racing venue. Later, it became Knoxville's first automobileracing track, the scene of dramatic events. In the 1920s, the track was paved over and redeveloped as residential property, part of what's now known as Burlington.
