The land around Oliver Springs has been used for centuries as an Indian hunting ground, but it was the springs that encouraged them to stay. Since then, Oliver Springs has been an important part of the coal industry, provided a workforce for World War II's Manhattan Project in the Secret City of Oak Ridge & is now home to the October Sky Festival every October.

Thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers (the Oliver Springs Historical Society), much preservation work has been done in the community leading to the restoration of the Abston Garage, the Oliver Springs Library & many more projects in the works.
