Located on the banks of the Tennessee River, the Catfish Hotel has been run by generations of the Hagy family and is one of oldest family-owned restaurants in the U.S. The long history began in 1825 when Henry Hagy and his wife, Polly, claimed several acres and began to build a farm. Their son John built a log shack years later next to the river to store items to be shipped by steamboats. According to the story, the shack was occupied by Union soldiers during the Battle of Shiloh.
In the early 1930s, the shack earned the name "Catfish Hotel" when Norvin Hagy entertained friends at cookouts and became known for his for the catfish, hushpuppies and hospitality. Today, people travel from all over to eat their famous, delicious catfish served up in a number of ways – fried, lemon pepper or Cajun. Hagy’s is also known for its seafood dishes and smokehouse specials such as ribs and ham.
