The historic 1891 Rhea County Courthouse was the site of the famous Scopes Evolution Trial, where a Dayton high school teacher was tried for teaching evolution in 1925. Visit the Scopes Trial Museum in the courthouses lower level to learn more about the event, (known then as the Monkey Trial) as well as Rhea Countys history. Dont miss the timeline on the front lawn sidewalk. Open Mon.-Sat., 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
