This church's 1830 cornerstone makes it Tennessee's first Episcopal church. It escaped occupation by Federal troops during the Civil War, and the current structure opened its doors in 1894. Long considered the mother church of Tennessee, it is now the official Cathedral of the Diocese, consisting of 50 parishes and missions.
The present Victorian Gothic church was designed by Francis Hatch Kimball of New York. The tower, designed by local architect Russell E. Hart was added in 1947.
