Sing till the Spirit Moves
The Fisk University Jubilee Singers broke racial barriers as they first sang for royalty and presidents in the late 1800s, performing "slave music" never before heard in the broader world. The traditional spirituals they sang later evolved into other genres of African-American music. During these first successful fundraising tours, the group set the stage for Nashville to become "Music City USA."
