Luke Appling
Park Ranger, Grandfather Mountain

Luke Appling has worked for Grandfather Mountain since 2002 and manages the park's backcountry hiking trails and campsites. In addition to his duties as a Park Ranger, Luke also oversees the park's new Green Initiative. Early phases of this initiative include producing electricity by way of solar power, using bio-fuel, higher efficiency standards and replacing plastics with biodegradable items. By educating park visitors with working examples of responsible and sustainable energy practices, Luke feels he can teach others proper stewardship. Luke is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and has received a BS in Ecology from Appalachian State University.
