Acting Commissioner Tim Webb
Tennessee Department of Education
Dr. Tim Webb was named acting commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Education on February 4, 2008. He fills the vacancy created by the recent retirement of Lana Seivers from state service.
Tim Webb is an integral member of the team that has led the Department of Education during the past five years in its mission to provide quality education for every child in the state of Tennessee, Bredesen said. I am pleased he has agreed to step into this position on a temporary basis so we can continue the progress in our states number one priority: education.
Webb, a native of Hohenwald, Tenn., has been with the department since 2003 and served as deputy commissioner. In the role of Deputy Commissioner, Webb's responsibilities included the daily operations of all divisions of the department. He previously served as assistant commissioner for the Division of Resources and Support Services, which is responsible for public school funding and facility oversight.
The Tennessee Department of Education oversees public pre-K through 12th grade schools in 136 local districts.
