Part of a 3,000-mile route from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, the Great River Road traces the mighty Mississippi and passes right through West Tennessee. Start out at 1. REELFOOT LAKE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE. At just three miles from the river, it is a major stopover and wintering ground for 400,000 migratory waterfowl on the Mississippi flyway. After, head to nearby 2. REELFOOT LAKE STATE PARK for bald eagle tours and nice places to picnic. Located, just northwest of cypress-lined Reelfoot Lake, the park is a great fishing and hunting preserve. Continue south on Highway 181; head east on 104, then south again on 51 through 3. HISTORIC DOWNTOWN DYERSBURG. Take a quick side trip east on Highway 54 to 5. MUD ISLAND RIVER PARK has canoes, kayaks and paddleboats for rent and a five-block, to-scale replica of the Mississippi River. While in Memphis, stop at the 6. CHUCALISSA MUSEUM for a look into mid-South Native American culture, and then hit the town for some barbecue and blues on 7. BEALE STREET. End your trip with a stop in nearby 8. COLLIERVILLE. Stroll through its historic downtown square for a taste of true small town charm, great shopping and local cuisine.
