Spring into West Tennessee Fun

9 Places to Visit | Plan for 3 days

Start the day by traveling along Tennessee’s Kentucky Lake/Tennessee River to the Tennessee River Freshwater Pearl Museum and Farm. Witness a remarkable iridescent product of nature as it emerges from the indigenous Washboard mussel. This natural attraction is showcased through a three-hour tour which provides an opportunity to learn first hand about the science of culturing freshwater pearls. Continue west to Jackson’s Casey Jones Home and Railroad Museum located at Casey Jones Village. Visit the historic home of America’s railroad legend and tour the museum and see the 130-ton engine on display.

Spring into your second day of adventure, by heading to Milan to the West Tennessee Agricultural Museum and learn about the hundreds of farm implements that shaped the progression of agriculture from the mid-1800s through the present. Continue traveling to the northwest corner of the state to the town of Tiptonville to visit Reelfoot Lake State Park. Learn about the creation of Reelfoot Lake from the earthquake that created this 13,000 acre park.

Get an early morning start on your third day by traveling south toward Memphis and visit the Children’s Museum of Memphis where children enter a world of discovery. Hands-on exhibits include Going Places, WaterWORKS, Growing Health, Art Smart and Cityscape. Continue south to Memphis to see the Fire Museum of Memphis which resides in Fire Engine House Number One, built in 1920. The museum houses artifacts dating back to the early 1900s with displays teaching fire safety. Enjoy the afternoon at the Memphis Zoo where the giant pandas Ya Ya and Le Le can be seen. The Memphis Zoo is home to more than 3,500 other animals. Don’t miss seeing the exhibits – Cat Country, Primate Canyon and Animals of the Night.

If time allows you to stay for a few more day sin West Tennessee, see the ducks at the Peabody Hotel, or watch a feature at the IMAX Theater at the Pink Palace Museum.
