Caves and Caverns

8 Places to Visit | Plan for 4-5 days

Begin your trip at the Bell Witch Cave and Canoe Rentals, considered one of the most haunted places in America. Explore the historic grounds and caverns by foot, on canoe or at night. Head Southeast to the Hancock House, a comfy little bed and breakfast in Nashville, TN with more caverns to explore as well as other outdoor activities.
Visit Tuckaleechee Caverns in Townsend. Onyx formations and indoor waterfalls are among the unique and natural features in these caverns. Rest up after your long exploratory day at a cabin or campground in Townsend.

Start out early the next day; give yourself plenty of time for the natural wonders a little southwest from here. Head towards Sweetwater and the Lost Sea, America’s largest underground lake. Spend the early part of the morning at the boat tour, gift shop and restaurant. Grab an early lunch here and travel another hour or so to Ruby Falls, Raccoon Mountain Caverns and Rock City in Chattanooga. Both deserve an hour or two of your time and will delight you with their matchless natural wonders. If you’re too exhausted to see all in one day, spend the night here and stay here the next day as well.

When you’re ready to mosey out of Chattanooga, loop back towards Nashville and visit Cumberland Caverns in McMinnville. You’ll enjoy this National Landmark as the finale of your cavern exploration.
