African-American artist and native Nashvillian Will Edmonson was the first black to be honored with a one-man exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Edmonson, the son of former slaves, created limestone carvings of animals, angels, Biblical characters and even celebrities. A photo spread of his work in Harper's Bazaar led to the historic 1937 exhibit in New York City. Today, his works are on display at Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art.

On the other side of the spectrum, Tennessee's beautiful scenery has been quite the stage for film and television projects, hosting over 200 motion picture ventures in the past two decades. With a filmography history dating back to 1923, Tennessee has been the stage for films like The Firm, Coal Miners Daughter, The Green Mile, Sweet Dreams, The Client, October Sky, Days of Thunder, The Last Castle, Walk the Line and The People VS. If you want a little more rapid eye movement, try a visit to one of the major architectural interests in Tennessee. The Parthenon in Nashville is quite a sight itself, as well as its focal point, the Athena statue (the tallest indoor structure in the Western World) and its indoor art museum. The building and Athena statue are both full-scale replicas of the ancient Greece originals. Globe-trot via car a couple of hours west to Paris (Tennessee, that is), and see the Eiffel Tower replica. If you seek optical inclusions in your vacation, Tennessee is your galleria. Your eyes have yet to see all this state has to offer.
The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is an architectural wonder in itself. One side of the building is a RKO-style radio tower while the main building, with windows resembling a piano keyboard, ends in a Cadillac tailfin-style flourish.
