Festival HQ
Tennessee hits the festival high notes, with choices from Rolling Stone's Best Festival 2008 to the largest country music celebration in the world to a blues-based bash. The diversity is as broad as the state, with a history of great performers and traditions as well as new genres. After all, our state quarter shows three instruments: a fiddle for East Tennessee; a guitar for Middle Tennessee's country music; and a trumpet for the jazz and blues of Memphis. Sheet music on the coin emphasizes the impact of the Volunteer State's national and international musical legacy.

Hillbillies don't conk that easy
Knoxvillian Patricia Neal won a Tony at 19, took the 1963 Best Actress Oscar for 'Hud,' and was nominated again in 1968 for "The Subject Was Roses." After three massive strokes in 1965, newspapers reported her death. She stubbornly learned to walk and talk again with help from husband Roald Dahl, saying, "Tennessee hillbillies don't conk that easy." The Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville is a leader in treating stroke, spinal cord and brain injuries.
