Studios & Workshops
"Handcrafted in Tennessee" carries a quality and a heritage that spells creativity and satisfaction, especially as handcrafted items have become more scarce. Tennessee’s craft studios are brimming with patterns, processes, and purposes for hand-crafted goods. Delve into the satisfying visual world of woodworking and furniture making; glassblowing, sculpture and ceramics; textiles and wearable art; and metalworking. Here are a few of the fine studios and tours available. For a complete list, click here.
Appalachian Center for Craft
The Appalachian Center for Craft, a satellite campus of Tennessee Tech University, offers a contemporary approach to fine craft. Students in this Fine Arts degree program gain the skills and knowledge necessary to become professional artisans. Projects build on a student's design skills to develop personal style. Students work alongside a fulltime, trained, resident artist and interact with visiting artists, lecturers, and gallery visits. Workshops are offered in wood, clay, fibers, glass, and metal. The campus, on 500 wooded acres overlooking Center Hill Lake, includes spacious studios, a gallery, exhibitions, a library, and a cafe.

The Delaney Brothers
Among the first renowned African American artists were brothers Beauford and Joseph Delaney. Beauford studied in Knoxville and Boston before associating with the Harlem Artists Guild and showing his work at “The Negro in Contemporary Art” exhibit at the Baltimore Museum, 1944.
