Historic Parks
Historic parks in Tennessee are retreats, places of beauty, most often with points of interest--parks with a past are all the more enticing.
Pall Mall holds Sgt. Alvin C. York Historic Park, which includes the York family farm and the grist mill brave Sgt. York operated for many years on the banks of the Wolf River. In Henning, 1,642-acre Fort Pillow State Historic Park, situated on the Chickasaw Bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River, is rich in both historic and archaeological significance. Step back in time in Vonore at Fort Loudoun State Historic Area, a 1,200-acre site on one of the earliest British fortifications on the western frontier, built in 1756. Nearby were the principal towns of the Cherokee Nation including Tenase, namesake of our state, and Tuskeegee, birthplace of Sequoyah. Today the fort and the 1794 Tellico Blockhouse overlook TVA's Tellico Reservoir and the Appalachian Mountains.
