Tobacco Heritage Tour of Homes
Encompassing two days and offered in conjunction with the Fifth Annual Clarksville Writers Conference, this year's tour centers around Clarksville's tobacco heritage and the tobacco wars of the early twentieth century, as recounted in Robert Penn Warren's award-winning novel Night Rider. Participants will tour the exteriors and/or interiors of over a dozen homes and other sites related to the tobacco heritage of this area. Attendees will also visit the Neely Log Cabin, once home to Mary Neely, who was captured by Shawnee Indians in 1780 at Fort Nashborough and is the subject of conference presenter p.m.terrell's historical suspense/thriller Songbirds are Free.
Preceding the tour of sites on the first day, participants will visit the Customs House Museum to view presentations and displays about Clarksville's tobacco heritage, as well as for discussion of Warren's Night Rider and the tobacco wars. Attendees will travel by bus to each of the stops along the tour, and lunch will be served both days.
