About the Symposium - Perspectives on the Civil War in West Tennessee combines scholarly perspectives and interpretative programs to provide new insights into the unique experience of living during the Civil War in West Tennessee. Keynote by Dr. Timothy Smith, University of Tennessee, Martin, “Difficult and Broken Ground: The Terrain Factor at Shiloh.” This talk will discuss West Tennessee's most significant wartime event. Continental breakfast will be served from 9-10am This program is part of a series of events commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Collierville. Weekend-long programming includes performances by professional storyteller Judith Black, local Civil War walking tours, and the temporary exhibition, Common People in Uncommon Times from the Tennessee State Museum on view at the Morton Museum through October 26, 2013. These programs are produced with support from the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area, which receives funding from the National Park Service.
