FRANKLIN AND CHATTANOOGA NAMED TOP 10 SOUTHERN CIVIL WAR BATTLEGROUNDS

Sep 5, 2014

USA Today recently recognized Franklin and Chattanooga in its list of “Civil War battlegrounds in the South” as part of USA Today Travel’s Best of the South series.

The Carter House, Carnton Plantation and Lotz House received national attention, as the “bullet-hole riddled buildings” are deemed must-visit relics from the Battle of Franklin, “one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, with thousands of causalities,” writes Neal Turnage, the author of the USA Today article. Turnage gave a nod to the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Franklin happening Nov. 13-14, 2014 in Franklin.

The Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Lookout Mountain where visitors can also experience the Battle for Chattanooga in a 3-D presentation were also added to the list.

Other states included were Virginia, West Virginia, South Carolina, Kentucky, and North Carolina.
