Tennessee Civil War Sesquicentennial Commemoration

The Tennessee Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission sponsored a series of Sesquicentennial Signature Events, which began in 2010 and were completed in 2015. These events were very successful with more than 25,000 people attending.

The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development would like to thank the members of the Tennessee Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission for their dedication and commitment to Tennessee's Civil War Sesquicentennial Commemoration.

A special thank you goes to the Signature Event host cities for all of their efforts to create memorable events that told the entire story of the Civil War and the important role our state played in this historic chapter in American history. The host cities include Nashville, Cookeville, Shiloh (Pickwick), Chattanooga, Franklin and Knoxville.

The Tennessee Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission worked in partnership with the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area, Tennessee Historical Society and the host cities to sponsor the Tennessee Signature Events, (2010-2015).

With the support of Governor Bill Haslam, the Tennessee Legislature and multiple state departments, as well as partnerships with the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area, Tennessee State Library and Archives, Tennessee State Museum and Nashville Public Television, Tennessee established a national model creating a sustainable legacy of sesquicentennial projects through the use of public / private partnerships.
