2014: The Last Campaign in Tennessee

Registration is now open for Tennessee’s 2014 Civil War Sesquicentennial Signature Event which remembers the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Franklin. Titled “The Last Campaign in Tennessee,” the commemoration will take place on November 13-14, 2014 in Franklin and surrounding historic sites.

The event will feature educational symposiums, book signings, a Sesquicentennial Civil War exhibit offering rare and unique artifacts from the Battle of Franklin, musical presentations and living history demonstrations, Confederate and Union.

The two-day event kicks off November 13, 2014 with the Looking Back: The Civil War in Tennessee, hosted by Tennessee State Library and Archives and a Teaching with Primary Sources workshop hosted by the MTSU Center for Historic Preservation.

A special evening concert and remarks from Tennessee State Historian Dr. Carroll Van West on Lessons and Legacies: The American Civil War Then and Now” will be also be held on November 13, 2014.

The Official Sesquicentennial Commemoration will begin on November 14 and will include special guests, battlefield preservation-related announcements and inspiring musical performances.

The ceremony will be followed by a keynote presentation and will feature a forum with America’s foremost historians on the Battle of Franklin including topics “The Cost of War” and “The New Breath of Freedom.”
